General Information

Welcome at the WiSo-Faculty of CAU

*This information was sent out via stu-E-Mail on 06.10.21 to all students enrolled by then*

Dear Students,

We would like to welcome you to the WiSo Faculty at CAU (the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences of Kiel University). We are very pleased that you have decided to study at our faculty.

Since the Corona University Regulations now allow this again, we would like to welcome you in presence in the lecture hall during the orientation week before the start of lectures (18-22 October). An exception to this is the welcome events for the English-language Master's programmes, which will again take place online. The WiSo and WiPo Student Councils are also planning a varied programme for the start of your studies, so that you can get to know your new fellow students, the CAU campus and the city of Kiel. While at the Student Council WiSo everything takes place in presence, at the Student Council WiPo the program is planned partly online and partly in presence.

We now present the various offers in detail.

Welcome events for the individual study programme

At the welcome events for the individual study programmes, you will get to know the study advisors, lecturers and Student Councel members or other students from higher semesters.  We will give you all the important organisational information about your studies and of course there will be the opportunity to answer your questions.

Here you will find an overview of the welcome events for the individual degree programmes:

https://www.wiso.uni-kiel.de/en/study/information-for-your-first-semester/orientation-program/welcome-events-for-the-study-programs

Info for greetings in presence:

You will be checked for 3G (geimpft, genesen, getestet = vaccinated, recovered, tested) in the entrance area of the buildings or at the entrance to the room, so please have your 3G proof and a photo ID ready there. What counts as 3G proof can be found here: https://www.uni-kiel.de/en/coronavirus/information/for-studentsThe test must not be older than 48 hours.

Mouth-to-nose coverings: It is compulsory to wear qualified mouth-nose covering (medical and FFP2 mask) in all CAU buildings. Mouth-nose covering can only be waived during the event if a minimum distance of 1.5 meters is maintained at all times and the 3G certificate of all participants was checked immediately before the start of the event. Depending on the event, it will be announced at the beginning, when everyone is seated, whether the mask can be removed.

Registration is not required for the welcome events.

OLAT Courses: Watch for invitations to OLAT courses for the welcome events for your degree program. These are especially planned for the following study programs and will take place in the next days:

  • Bachelor BWL / Wiwi
  • Master BWL / Wiwi
  • Bachelor VWL
  • Bachelor Socio-Economics

Programs of the Student Councils:

There are two student councils at our faculty, both of whom have set up an orientation program for you, which you will find in the respective letter attached (only in German, WiSo/WiPo):

WiSo Student Council:
Responsible for all courses of study/subjects of the WiSo faculty except economics/politics at the teaching level.

  • The WiSo student council provides a versatile welcome program, offers Whatsapp groups for the individual study programs and provides videos on the various platforms of the CAU with step-by-step explanations for you (e.g. for Olat).

WiPo Student Council:
Responsible for the subject Economics/Politics (teaching profession)

  • In addition to a Ersti-Whatsapp group, the Faschaft WiPo offers a varied welcome program.

Take advantage of this offer to network and familiarize yourself with the various sources of information for your studies at an early stage.

We plan the welcoming events and other support offers throughout the semester in close cooperation with the student councils. The faculty and the individual institutes are very interested in a close cooperation with student representatives and appreciate a committed student community. We would therefore be pleased if you, as a new student, would also like to represent your interests in the student council or otherwise contribute to the organization of your studies and student life.
