Can I ask for the Admission Requirement Check for several Master programs at the same time?

Yes, it is possible to ask for checking Admission Requirements for several Master Programs of our Institute at the same time..

I am a Kiel University student and fulfill the admission requirements:

Graduates or students of Kiel University who meet the admission requirements stated in the degree-specific examination regulations have to submit the request for a change of the degree programme, a copy of the Bachelor’s degree or a provisional transcript of records, a verification of proficiency in English language, a copy of the personal ID or passport and the Leporello for the following semester to the Student Service (postal address: Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Studierendenservice, 24098 Kiel). I am a Kiel University students who does not meet the admission requirements

Graduates and students of Kiel University with a final grade 3.0 or better can be accepted according to criteria stated in the degree-specific examination regulations. Additional to the documents necessary for admission stated above, students need to submit proof to the Student Service that they meet the eligibility criteria. This proof is obtained by contacting the responsible student guide and receiving a signed form from the exam office proving they meet the admission requirements. Please consider that student guides can only check eligibility if you hand in the request for examination of eligibility, a copy of your Bachelor’s degree or a provisional transcript of records and a verification of proficiency in English language. After obtaining the proof of eligibility from your student guide / exam office, admission procedure is the same as for students of Kiel University meeting the admission requirements.  Further information can be found on the homepage of the Student Service.

I am a national students with a national Bachelor's degree

National graduates and students holding a national Bachelor’s degree have to provide proof that they meet the eligibility criteria. Therefore, they have to submit the request for examination of eligibility with all required documents to the examination office of the Department of Economics. Subsequently, students have to submit the approved request, a confirmation of registration from the online-registration service, a certified copy of their Bachelor’s degree or a provisional transcript of records, a verification of proficiency in English language, a copy of the personal ID and a copy of the school leaving certificate for higher education (e.g. Abitur), an insurance certificate, a confirmation of deregistration of the previous higher education institute and a  stamped envelope to the Student Service (postal address: Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Studierendenservice, 24098 Kiel). Please, register online for the summer term during the 15th of February and the 15th of March and for the winter term during the 1st until the 30th of September. I am a national students with an international Bachelor's degree

National graduates and students holding an international Bachelor’s degree should register directly with Student Service (postal address: Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Studierendenservice, 24098 Kiel). There the same procedure applies as for national students with a national Bachelor’s degree. Before applying, please send all required documents stated above via e-mail to Veronika Langner, vlangner@uv.uni-kiel.de, 0431-8803718, to obtain the necessary proof of eligibility. I am an international students with a national Bachelor's degree

International graduates and students holding a national Bachelor’s degree and are interested in a Master´s programme should apply directly with the Student Service of Kiel University. Same application procedure applies as for national students with a national Bachelor's degree. Please hand in all foreign academic certificates and their official translations. Please keep in mind that for registration a previous proof of eligibility is necessary that can be obtained from the examination office of the Department of Economics. I am an international students with an international Bachelor's degree

International students have to apply via UNI-ASSIST. However, online application only is not sufficient. Next to the online-application, the application documents still have to be sent via mail to the following address:

All documents have to be certified copies of all the originals written in original language and certified copies of the translations (in German or English). Note, that all documents will be destroyed afterwards. Thus, do not send original documents. Applications from China, Vietnam and Mongolia will only be accepted if an original certificate from the Academic Examination Board (APS) is enclosed (no copies!). At the time you receive our letter of admission, you may apply for your visa at the Academic Examination Board. This avoids asking for an appointment at the visa office. Please take into account, that no binding preliminary examination can occur before the application process, especially not if grades from international degrees have not yet been converted.

When can I apply via UNI-ASSIST?

For the master programs Economics, Quantitative Finance, Quantitative Economics and Environmental and Resource Economics the application deadline is the 15th of January for the following summer semester and the 15th of July for the winter semester. All applications received later will not be considered for the respective semester but for the upcoming one.

What happens if UNI-ASSIST rejects my application?

We just accept applications that have been approved by UNI-ASSIST. Whether your university degree meets the requirements will be determined by UNI-ASSIST only. For further information and question please contact UNI-ASSIST directly.

Do I have to speak German?

No, for courses of the Economics and Statistics and Econometrics Department no knowledge of German is required. However, German classes might be helpful for daily life in Germany. Credits obtained from German classes cannot replace courses in the programm but they might be listed on your transcript of records. At Kiel University it is possible to do German courses on different levels at the "Lektorat German as a foreign language" ( for further information click here). Additionally, the International Center offers two summer courses each year. Further information can be found on the homepage of the International Center.

Can I check eligibility in advance?

Your eligibility will be checked after the official submission of your application through UNI-ASSIST or the examination office. General information on admission requirements can be found in the study guide, the degree-specific examination regulations of the respective Master programme and on our homepage.

We ask for your understanding that no binding preliminary examination can occur before the application process, especially not if grades from international degrees have not been converted yet.

If finishing the Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Kiel University, can I apply for the Master programmes?

Yes, the Bachelor’s programme at Kiel University meets the admission requirements for our Master programmes. No examination of eligibility is necessary, but for successful registration an ECTS grade of 2.5 or better is necessary. Do I need a Bachelor’s degree in Economics to apply for the Master’s programme?

No, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics is not an absolute requirement. However, as stated in the degree-specific examination regulations, a certain amount of credits in economic and quantitative courses is necessary. Check degree-specific examination regulations and here. for more information on admission requirements. If you are not sure whether your courses meet the requirements please add detailed courses descriptions officially issued from your university.

Can I apply without yet having completed my Bachelor’s degree?

Yes, this is possible. Instead of a copy of Bachelor’s degree certificate students can submit a provisional transcript of records stating that they are missing less than 30 ECTS for completing their degree. However, the official degree certificate must be submitted no later than the 10th of December for the winter term and the 10th of June for the summer term.
